We Installed Bee Apiaries on our Downtown Vancouver Rooftop

At Royal Centre, we care deeply about our environment, and we are continually seeking ways to ensure that we are doing what we can to reduce our carbon footprint in our daily operations.

To help support the downtown Vancouver ecosystem, we teamed up with Jessie Collison, an urban beekeeper at Alvéole, to install beehives on top of our iconic building located at the corner of Burrard and West Georgia Street in the heart of downtown Vancouver.

The bees will pollinate the neighbourhoods that surround our Centre (they can cover up to 5 km of surrounding territory while foraging). There are already dozens of native pollinators in the downtown area, and they help to keep the vegetation healthy. The honeybees at Royal Centre act as ambassadors for all pollinators. Cool, hey!

Later this summer, the Alvéole team will come back and harvest the honey - we’ll be sure to announce on our Facebook and Instagram pages when they are ready for you to stop by and taste them!

We’ll soon be partnering up with our friends at Daily Hive to help name the apiaries (and the winners will get a fun prize from us!). Keep an eye on our social channels for when that goes live!
